In 1962, great Russian author Alexander Solzhenitsyn wrote One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, the story of a Russian mans one-day routine while incarcerated in the Gulag. The harsh realities of the Stalinist camps were laid bare, forcing many people to change past perceptions, to part with their Communist illusions. After reading it, Khrushchev, the head of the Soviet Communist Party, was so moved that he partially disclosed the truth about Stalins crimes.
