NOVOROSSIYA

Luhansk, Donetsk, Debaltsevo, Mariupol, Makeevka are not just pins on the map. These are the cities in nowadays Ukraine where people have been fighting for their lives and Russian identity for the past 10 years. Novorossiya was formed in 1764 by Catherine the Great. It was the place where the Russian Empire established towns, seaports, factories, mines, and universities. In 1922, after the Communist Revolution, Lenin made Novorossiya a part of the Soviet Ukraine. In 1991, after the fall of USSR, Ukraine was declared an independent country.
